We’re so excited for our partners at Polygon and the innovation they’re delivering with Polygon zkEVM. This revolutionary technology offers web3 developers the built-in security and network benefits of EVM, coupled with the performance benefits of ZK-Rollups.
Alchemy’s infrastructure will be available for all builders on Polygon zkEVM Mainnet from Day 1. Get started with the most scalable infrastructure in web3!
Polygon zkEVM: EVM equivalence, infinite scalability
As a Layer 2 scaling mechanism, Zero-Knowledge Rollups (ZK-Rollups), running on top of Ethereum Mainnet, exponentially improve Ethereum’s throughput and transaction efficiency. This gets the web3 ecosystem closer to solving the blockchain trilemma: the perennial trade off between security, decentralization and scalability.
Polygon zkEVM leverages the security and decentralization of Ethereum, while introducing game changing scaling mechanisms via ZK-Rollups.
The tangible product benefits of Polygon zkEVM
There are three main benefits of developing on Polygon zkEVM: EVM equivalence, scalability, and low costs.
EVM equivalence
With Polygon zkEVM, any Ethereum L1 or L2 developer can simply copy and paste their Solidity code and deploy on zkEVM, providing sustained access to the security benefits of the decentralized Proof-of-Stake (PoS) chain, as well as the composability that comes from building within the world’s largest smart contract ecosystem.
Scalability
Using zero-knowledge cryptography to outsource computation off the Ethereum L1 chain, transactions are finalized significantly faster, translating to higher throughput capacity, and higher volume of successful transactions.
Low cost
Instead of having to verify each full L2 transaction on the L1 chain, ZK proofs enable posting only the state changes back to the L1. This demands significantly less data, reducing the computational cost required to verify a block’s transactions.
Polygon zkEVM use cases
All EVM developers will immediately benefit from the advantages of Polygon zkEVM. A few categories of applications that should be particularly excited include DEXs, web3 games, and NFT marketplaces.
Decentralized Exchanges (DEXs), AMMs, Lending & Yield and Bridges
DeFi applications, one of the most popular Ethereum use cases, are historically limited in terms of scalability and transaction fees, especially for users bridging back and forth between L1 and L2s.
Polygon zkEVM solves this with improved throughput, heightened efficiency, and reduced costs, especially when moving liquidity across chains.
Web3 games
Gaming apps can be constrained by high fees and slow confirmation times, especially for complex, in-game transactions.
Polygon zkEVM will offer players greater transaction speeds and an improved user experience (UX).
NFT Marketplaces
Timeliness of NFT bids often makes the difference between a successful and unsuccessful mint. Polygon zkEVM will reduce latency and confirmation times, making minting, buying and selling NFTs less daunting and more effective for more users.
Infinite scalability accessible via Alchemy infrastructure
At Alchemy, we’ve spent years building a battle-tested platform that’s the most reliable and scalable in web3. With elastic systems to scale based on demand, we’re the only platform built to seamlessly handle the request load that will be generated by Polygon zkEVM. Polygon believes Alchemy will shepherd in massive opportunity for the web3 community:
"Polygon zkEVM will unlock unprecedented scalability in web3. A great way for developers to actualize these benefits is with Alchemy's infrastructure, that guarantees infinite scalability, with the highest reliability in the ecosystem." - Sandeep Nailwal, Polygon Co-Founder
